Bioinformatics

The Alliance's bioinformatics platforms and service centers have enabled the development of original skills within the research teams. Original genomic observatory projects have been launched in the Mediterranean and in the Channel, thanks to observation and genomics data.

The ABIMS platform at the Roscoff station offers service activities (e-infrastructure, software engineering and bioanalysis) and research in bioinformatics. It is open to the entire life sciences community.  It is one of the platforms of the French Institute of Bioinformatics and a major contributor to the IFB's NNCR (National Network of Computing Resources). The platform is also a data and data center of the Odatis cluster of the DataTerra infrastructure.

On the Pierre and Marie Curie campus of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ISCD) is a computational resource that operates on the basis of calls for tenders.

At the National Museum of Natural History, the Joint Service Unit (UMS 2700) Data Acquisition and Analysis for Natural History offers an intensive computing platform for bioinformatics with a modular supercomputer. This infrastructure is made available to the scientific community.

Strong skills in bioanalysis on marine systems have been developed in the Alliance's marine stations as well as the research units "Biology of Aquatic Organisms and Ecosystems" (BOREA), "Institute of Systematics, Evolution, Diversity" (ISYEB), "Bioinformatics Workshop" (ABI), and "Institute of Physico-chemical Research" (IBPC),

Big Data

The evolution of data volumes and the diversification of data in the fields of ecology and genomics raise questions common to all the Alliance's stakeholders:

•    Data transport and storage
•    Data transport for connected objects, e.g. buoys
•    Proximity between data generation centers and data processing centers
•    Data processing and storage infrastructures
•    The fairification of data and processing
•    Traceability
•    Reproducibility of treatments
•    Data interoperability

These issues involve joint work with specialists in artificial intelligence and intensive computing, and the implementation of a data governance plan.
